The odor emitted by Ascon's operations in Geomdan Industrial Complex in Seo-gu, Incheon is expected to decrease significantly next year.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it will push for environmental improvement projects for 11 Ascon sites in the Geomdan Industrial Complex in Seo-gu by next year. The project is one of the pilot projects of the "wide-area air improvement support" in which the Ministry of Environment integrates air prevention facility replacement and odor improvement projects for old industrial complexes and others.

The city will focus on sealing odor-generating facilities and installing high-efficiency prevention facilities at all Ascon factory in the Geomdan Industrial Complex to improve air quality and reduce odors. The city plans to install airtight facilities at the Ascon manufacturing site so that the odor can be handled internally without escaping from the outside. It is also going to improve RTO (Heat Storage Combustion Oxidation System). To this end, the city will invest a total of 6.48 billion won, including 1.56 billion KRW this year and 4.92 billion KRW next year.

In addition, the city receives various technical and financial support from the Ministry of Environment. The city also plans to form and operate an industry-academic-related consultative body with the Ministry of Environment and to involve experts such as the Green Environmental Support Center from the planning stage to install optimal prevention facilities suitable for the site conditions of the workplace.

In particular, the company plans to attach IoT measuring devices to check operation and management at all times after facility improvement, and conduct technical diagnostics to enhance environmental engineers' management skills. An official from the Ministry of Environment said, "This pilot project is a new business method that comprehensively manages air pollutants and odors."

A city official said, "There are many complaints from nearby residents due to the stench coming from the Ascon workplace, and such problems will be solved to some extent."
