The creation of a Hallyu(Korean Wave) video indurstry complex aimed at the global Over The Top (OTT) market will be promoted near Incheon International Airport.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority under the Incheon Metropolitan Government said on the 10th that it plans to submit a change to the Yeongjong International City Development Plan to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy next month.

The revised plan will designate 807,000of Mt. Eulwang, west of Incheon International Airport, as the largest complex production center, state-of-the-art sharing studio, outdoor filming facilities, OTT exhibition hall, Hallyu theme cultural street, and marine and leisure facilities.

This project will be implemented by SG Industrial Development, a private company that signed a business agreement with the Incheon Economic Agency in October 2018 after public offering.

Previously, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority applied for the designation of a free economic zone centered on the cultural content business in 2019, but was not selected due to other regions in Korea that submitted development plans focused on new growth industries such as AI (artificial intelligence) and hydrogen economy.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority expects that if administrative procedures, including the designation of a free economic zone, are carried out smoothly, the site will be constructed in 2023, followed by the construction of the facility in 2025, and completed in early 2028.

An official from the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority said, "If the complex is created, it is expected to generate 4.9 trillion KRW in production and induce employment of 73,000 people. We will support the project as much as possible to be successful."
