Attention is focusing on EGR+, an eco-friendly facility of SG (SG), the No. 1 company in the Asphalt Concrete industry.

According to SG on the 30th, EGR+, the only eco-friendly facility for Ascon in Korea, is drawing attention as 'Case of Cancer Substance Damage and Current Status' is aired on a terrestrial broadcast recently.

EGR+ is an eco-friendly facility that has completely passed 'standard for allowing emission of specific air pollutants from Ministry of Environment' that was developed by SG and is currently being commercialized after completing patent registration in February of this year. The company has recently signed contracts worth 2.6 billion won with six Ascon plants in Gyeonggi, Incheon, North Jeolla and North Chungcheong provinces.

Ascon, a major material for road pavement, produces first-class carcinogens such as benzoyne, benzene, and formaldehyde. As a result, cases of damage have long been constantly raised, with residents living near the plant being diagnosed with collective cancer or suffering from respiratory diseases of unknown causes.

The Ministry of Environment will order the cancellation of permits for Ascon factories that exceed emission standards while strengthening emission standards for certain air pollutants from January this year.

Therefore, all ascon factories across the country must install certain air pollutant reduction facilities. In this situation, SG developed EGR+, which can reduce certain air pollutants such as first-class carcinogens from Ascon factories, below the standard level for the first time in Korea.

"If government supports the Green New Deal project, which is currently being discussed by the government, we can reduce the cost of businesses that need to install eco-friendly facilities," an SG official said. "Our goal is to improve the air environment by supplying eco-friendly facilities to about 800 ascon factories across the country and change awareness of the ascon industry to eco-friendly industries."

He added, "If the supply of eco-friendly facilities for Ascon is expanded, residents near the Ascon plant will also be able to ease anxiety over air pollution."
