SG, the No. 1 company in the Ascon (Asphalt Concrete) industry, announced on the 21st that it plans to commercialize EcoSteelAscon in the Seoul metropolitan area in the second half of this year.

According to SG, the company recently proposed to related ministries of Seoul Metropolitan Government and Incheon Metropolitan City to guarantee the quality of delivery of new EcoSteelAscon.

EcoSteelAscon is an eco-friendly technology that improves the performance of asphalt concrete by using strong steel slag instead of natural aggregate, and has the characteristics of ▲high strength ▲low noise▲ durability▲economy.

It is about 1.5 times stronger than regular ascon, optimized for wide-area, boulevard, and large-sized heavy-vehicle traffic areas, and is suitable for use in densely populated areas and apartment residential areas because it has excellent noise reduction effects when driving vehicles.

In advanced countries abroad, slag used in EcoSteelAscon is already used as a road pavement material. It is used as a percentage of 77 percent in Australia, 62 percent in the U.S., 46 percent in Europe, and 35 percent in Japan, and SG is seeking to commercialize it for the first time in Korea. EcoSteelAscon boasts excellent durability. It has a life span of four years, about twice the average life span of a regular ascon (two years). SG operates a quality assurance system that actively utilizes such quality excellence to ensure the quality of eco-styl Ascon for up to four years, which is twice as high as that of its peer group.

Considering the warranty period of regular ascon and EcoSteelAscon, it has a cost saving effect of 41.3% compared to regular ascon, which is also excellent in economics.

SG first constructed EcoSteelAscon in November last year on 'High-Speed End Point Underground Road in Michuhol-gu, Incheon. In the case of the high-speed terminal underground roadway in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, large heavy vehicles were frequently passing through, and it was frequently filled with water due to high underground water levels, which caused frequent problems due to severe deformation and damage even if it was laid with regular ascon and modified ascones.​

​After the first construction of the EcoSteelAscon in such a section, SG was recognized by the local government and completed the second construction to the opposite lane in June this year. In addition, the construction of EcoSteelAscon has been completed in Incheon's Taesung Steel Logistics Complex and E1 Container Terminal in Jung-gu, Incheon, and is continuously increasing the amount of supplies.

"EcoSteelAscon, which has completed performance verification starting with Incheon, is currently pushing for new construction technologies to strengthen its unique technology," he added. "We are planning to commercialize them in the Seoul metropolitan area in the second half of this year, focusing on Incheon and Seoul."​
