The Korea Testing & Research Institute (KDR) announced on the 18th that it has signed a business agreement with SG Co., Ltd. at the Incheon office to reduce odors and harmful gases emitted from ascon plants.

Under the agreement, KTR will conduct tests and joint research and development with SG to reduce the harmfulness and odor of ascon emissions.

By the end of this year, the company will cooperate in laying the foundation for the provision of related testing and certification services for ascon manufacturers that need to install ascon manufacturing facilities that meet air pollution emission reduction standards for odors, formaldehyde and benzene.

SG Co., Ltd. is a company that produces ascon odors and harmful emission reduction devices and developed and commercialized ascon environmental facilities that are circulating exhaust gas that meet 'specific harmful substances' emission standards of the Ministry of Environment in February.

Ascon, which means asphalt concrete, which is mainly used as a pavement material for roads, is often used to build urban-based support facilities such as road opening, housing site development, and port facilities, but it is also the main culprit of air pollution that emits first-class carcinogens.

Kim Jin-tae, director of the KTR Construction and Safety Research Institute, said, "The agreement will strengthen the testing analysis and measurement base to improve the performance of ascon odors and harmful emissions reduction devices. In addition to testing and analysis, we will make efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the ascon industry by holding a technology seminar."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment revised the Air Quality Conservation Act in May, which obliges all ascon producers to install eco-friendly facilities, to reduce emissions of certain air pollutants, and decided to apply it from next year. Currently, about 550 companies are involved in Ascon pavement materials.
