In conjunction with the free passage of Ilsan Bridge, a new bridge is being built across the Hangang River in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, and Ilsan New Town.

According to Gyeonggi-do on the 3rd, Gimpo-si proposed the construction of Yangchondaegyo Bridge (tentative name) to Gyeonggi-do on the 29th of last month, connecting Nusan-ri, Yangchon-eup, Gimpo-si, and Gusan-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si.

The background of Gimpo City's proposal to build Yangchon Bridge is that it can disperse traffic concentrated on Ilsan Bridge and increase mutual competitiveness between regions by connecting Gimpo City and Goyang City, which are cut off by the Han River.

Gyeonggi-do said that before the public interest disposition for free passage of Ilsan Bridge, it was difficult due to increased financial burden due to the construction of new routes, but if free passage is confirmed, it is possible to review the new Yangchon Bridge.

Earlier, when the Hallyu World site was created, Gyeonggi-do built a new bridge to improve wide-area transportation and pushed for the construction of a road connecting the Ilsan New Town Janghang IC and the Incheon Airport Expressway, and was suspended due to concerns over compensation for losses.

As a result, the construction of a new Han River bridge near Ilsan Bridge can be promoted.

However, the construction of the Yangchon Bridge proposed by Gimpo City is not expected to be easy.

Construction of the Gimpo-Paju section (25.36km) of the 2nd Ring Expressway in the Seoul metropolitan area began in February 2019. This section is scheduled to open in 2024 by connecting Gimpo and Ilsan New Town across the Hangang River underground.

As a result, there is a possibility that the construction of a bridge connecting Janghang IC and Gimpo City, which was originally reviewed by Gyeonggi Province, will be promoted.

When this bridge is newly built, it will be the 30th road connecting the Hangang River to the north and south.

The problem of building a new bridge on the Han River can only be promoted when the problem of free passage of Ilsan Bridge is resolved.

Gyeonggi-do delivered a notice of public interest disposition to Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd. to cancel the designation of a project operator to make Ilsan Bridge free of charge on the 26th of last month, and adjusted the toll on Ilsan Bridge to "0 won" from noon on the 27th.

Accordingly, Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd. filed an application for suspension of execution and cancellation of the public interest disposition against Gyeonggi-do in the afternoon of the 27th at the Suwon District Court.

The decision to suspend the execution of the public interest disposition of Ilsan Bridge is expected to take place within this week after a hearing on the 2nd.

Attention is focusing on what judgment the court will make on the public interest disposition of Ilsan Bridge, a prerequisite for the construction of the 30th bridge on the Hangang River.
