4.6 trillion KRW to build a new airport.

A private airport in southern Gyeonggi was named the government's comprehensive airport development plan for the first time along with the construction of a new airport in Gadeok Island. Incheon International Airport is planning to build the fifth runway.

According to related industries on the 22nd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has drafted the 6th airport development comprehensive plan, which includes spending 9.4 trillion won on facilities related to airports by 2025.

First of all, about 4.6 trillion KRW will be used to build new airports such as Ulleung Airport and Saemangeum Airport. The development of the new airport included the relocation of Gadeokdo New Airport, Daegu Airport, Jeju Airport Infrastructure Project, Muan Airport and Gwangju Airport, Saemangeum New Airport, Cheongju Airport, and General Airport (Heuksan Airport, Baengnyeong Airport, Seosan Airport). The review included improvements in facilities at private and Wonju airports in southern Gyeonggi and the installation of civil airport facilities in Pocheon Airfield.

Among them, the southern Gyeonggi private airport is a project linked to the relocation project of Suwon Military Airport. The basic plan is to allow civilian aircraft to be used on the runway created by the relocation of Suwon Military Airport. Hwaseong City is mentioned as the site for the relocation of Suwon Military Airport. However, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained that the relocation of military airports is not an issue that can be decided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and that consultation between local governments is also necessary.

The plan is to build a new airport on Gadeok Island, which can handle passenger and cargo demand 24 hours a day. It included a plan to complete the preliminary feasibility study scheduled for early next year as soon as possible and find ways to shorten the construction period.

4.7 trillion won will be invested in facility expansion and maintenance, including the fourth-stage construction project at Incheon International Airport by 2025. The fourth phase of the Incheon Airport project will be completed in 2024, and it plans to conduct a master plan study to consider further expansion of infrastructure such as the fifth runway and the third passenger terminal. Gimpo Airport is planning to establish a master plan to build a new terminal for domestic flights and prepare for an increase in demand for smart airports such as urban air transportation terminals.

Incheon International Airport Corporation is in charge of 4.4 trillion won in airport facility expansion and maintenance projects, while Korea Airports Corporation will invest 230 billion won. The use of state funds is 59 billion won.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport predicted that the 6th comprehensive airport development plan will increase the capacity of the airport from 197.71 million last year to 229.77 million in 2025, up 16.2 percent.

An official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, "The 6th airport development comprehensive plan is currently in process of collecting opinions from local governments."
