Preliminary work for the "East-West-North Peace Road" connection project from Incheon to Gyeonggi-do through Sokcho, Gangwon-do, will begin in earnest next month.

 

According to Gyeonggi-do on the 29th, Gyeonggi-do, Incheon-si, and Gangwon-do will sign a business agreement in October to jointly promote research services for the feasibility review of the East-West North Peace Road connection project.

 

This feasibility service is a preliminary procedure to ensure that the project can be reflected in the "Comprehensive Plan for Development in the Border Region."

 

The three cities and provinces, which have jointly proposed the necessity of the ultra-wide peace road project to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security after working-level consultations in April, will promise to jointly share 150 million won in service costs and expand cooperation and exchanges necessary for the project.

 

The Korea Transportation Research Institute will be in charge of the feasibility service for about eight months from next month, and it plans to review the optimal route for Future transportation demand forecast Analysis of effects in various aspects such as balanced economic, environmental, and regional development.

The Pyeonghwa Road was designed to establish a wide-area transportation system in Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Gangwon areas and to develop balanced border areas.

 

The three cities and provinces are planning to connect the 356.5km section to Ganghwa, Gyeonggi-do, and Sokcho, Gangwon-do, and plan to open and expand the 86.3km section of the three cities and provinces, including Gimpo (Munsu-Munbal), Paju-Yangju (Bangchuk-Bi District), and Pocheon (Baekwoon District). However, the specific route may be changed according to the feasibility service results and consultation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

 

Prior to the business agreement with Incheon and Gangwon-do, the province submitted an agreement to sign a joint promotion agreement for peace road connection projects to obtain prior approval from the Gyeonggi-do council, and will be deliberated at the 355th extraordinary meeting of the provincial council, which will be held on October 5.

 

In the agreement, the province said, "The peace road connection project is being planned to establish an ultra-wide transportation system and develop a border area," adding, "We are trying to promote feasibility services to secure the feasibility and justification of the project."
